I do not see much posted here so I thought I would get the ball rolling. I am needing ideas on constructing a fold down table around a 6x6 support column or post that is located dead center of my lovelys kitchen. She wants to use the table as a daily eating spot but be able to fold it down and out of the way when entertaining. We would then just use the formal dining room. I cannot figure any good ideas as to how to make it attractive when folded down or how to make a clever attachment for the table. Shape is another consideration. Round around the post or square which could double as a preparation area. Ideas and suggestions welcome?

There are many different options, a picture of your kitchen might help.
Here is just one example I stumbled upon, although it is not fold down. (You will have to copy and paste to your address bar)

You might try posting the pic of your room in one of the interior design forums to get an idea, then post back here to figure out how to build it.
Hope this helps.
