Hi,
I noticed today after many days of hearing this mysterious humming that the humming started after a toilet was flushed.More precisely after the flushing and the toilet tank filling up.When it would fill up to the top then the humming would start low increase and then decrease again and stop. The whole humming lasts a 5 secs or so.I turned up the flow to the tank and that sort of brought the humming down ,but i'm not sure its gone altogether.
What is the reason for this and what's the fix????

Keep the wall valve fully open at all times. What you have is a fluttering fill valve on the toilet. It is sensing the tank filling up, and can't decide whether there is enough water or not. It is not defective, but if it bothers you, you can install a Fluidmaster 400 valve which should eliminate the problem. 10 minute job.
