what to check or look for? the contactor is almost brand new professional install. the caps i installed and they worked for months. maybe water invasion in twist-capped and taped connections?

Id say amp out the compressor. If high Ohm it out and see what you have there. Sounds like you could need a new compressor. IS it the fan or the compressor?????

could you expand on "amp out" and "ohm out" ? i.e. see the amp flow is ... where? and ohms across .... what?
thanks

A amprobe is what you use to see what the compressor or fan is drawing in amps to run. It will say on the unit what the amp draw should be. You Ohm a compresor to see like if it has a short to ground .Also what it will say on the wireing form R to G to C
