OK this may be a silly question but I'm looking into a new water heater (tankless) and keep reading that depending on the ground wate temp and how much you need the temp to rise will depend on how much actual gpm the heater can produce. Ok, now how does someone figure out the ground water temp?

Thank you

Turn on a cold water faucet. Run the water for several minutes to clear out all the water stored within the pipes in the house. Eventually, you will have water directly from the underground pipes. Stick a thermometer in a glass full. This will be a pretty close representation of your ground water temp.
