I am planning to replace 100 kitchen and bathroom sink faucets so I want to choose the most reliable faucets I can. My budget is about $50 per faucet. I plan on getting valves with ceramic disks.

Are single handle faucets more or less reliable than 2 handle designs?

do any of you have a favororit brand of foucet?

In that price range, you should be looking at either Delta or Moen, perhaps Price-Phister. If it were me I'd probably go with Moen. Good customer service, easy parts availability, etc. Not sure if you'll get ceramic disks for $50, but Moen cartridges are readily available & easy to change. One caveat is that Moen cartridges can get stuck. There's a tool available for pulling them.

I am looking at using a faucet made by "American standard" colony series. It is about $58.00 and has ceramic disks. My only concern about this faucet is that I think I can feel a slight wiggle in the handle and I am afraid that over time the screws holding the handle on could loosen and the handle could fall off.

you can see the faucet at:

Read warranties carefully for finish and components. Keep a copy.

On finding reliable faucets:

I would choose the same manufacturer and style as used by well-managed motels and resort condominiums (rentals). Not luxury units, but mid-range units.

I would not set an arbitrary budget for the initial cost, because your goal is to minimize life-cycle costs, including labor costs to replace all of the failures, over the lifetime of your housing investment.

The owners of well-managed, large-scale motels and condos are professional investors; they base their plumbing decisions on demonstrated life-cycle costs. They're conservative; they will only install faucets that are in high-volume production and with a proven track record. They know the track record on a particular design, because they own buildings all over the world, and they've installed this same design in years past, in other buildings.

What about the latest fads, hot new faucet designs, a bargain price from a new manufacturer in China? A professional long-term investor will avoid these like the plague.

A note on waranties: Does the waranty cover your LABOR costs to repair and then replace all of the defective, unreliable faucets?
