To clean out the system for rotten egg smell and maintenance, can I add some bleach to the water softener? How much-how often?

add a cup, not sure how often you can do it though, but i know at least once, when i had my water softener installed the Kinetico lady recommended adding bleach, i just don't remember if she said how often it could be done, i had actually added probably half of the jug(gallon) because of the buildup and smell.

Contact the manufacturer of the water softener for recommendations if owner's manual does not address this issue.

It is not recommended to add bleach to the softener as a sulfur treatment. Bleach will destroy the resins. There are more effective ways to handle sulfur.

Go to the filters and conditioners forum to get more info on this problem.
