Forgive my gross misuse of terms in this thread; I can build you a car or computer, but I'm lost here.

I am attempting to make a box out of 3/4" wide x1/8" thick L-shaped aluminum. Based on my compound miter saw's recommendation, I'm cutting the metal in as an upside down V (sitting on the bench like an A). I know I need 45 degree angles to make this box work, but setting my saw (my thinking is obviously flawed here) to that did not give me what I needed.

If anyone needs a diagram I'd be glad to draw something up and toss it on here.

Oh yeah, my question! What should I set my saw to in order to get these 45 degree angles?

Thanks in advance!

Can't tell you what the angle would be, since there is no way for us to know at what angle the aluminum is sitting at, or whether the sides of your L-shaped piece are of equal length, or if one is longer than the other.

If they are equal lengths, you "might" be able to use the same settings as 45 degree crown when cut on the flat. (35.26 bevel, 30 miter). If you try that, it might get you close.

But I'd recommend forgetting cutting it the way you've been trying, and cut it upright- like this... L where the back of the L would be the fence. Why make it hard? Put the safety glasses on and cut slow.

How many sides will the box have? Will the sides be equal in length?
