While putting in a humidifier I knicked one of the small copper tubing lines on the a-coil with the tin snips. Is it possible to repair this or am I looking at a new a-coil?

You will have to call in the pro and they can see if you can have it fixed. For now, put tape on it to keep dirt and moister out of it.

Well end ot this summer my grandfather had no cooling. So I loaded up my tools and went for the hour drive. Low on gas and somebody didn't bring my sniffer I won't tell you who didn't bring it. So recgharded and told him it should last tell 2007 (this is strate AC). So two weeks later I get the call. I go back find the leak in the middle of the coil. So go and order a new coil! Waite a NEW AHU IS ONLY $15.00 MORE. No brainer! So get the new AHU get it into the atick pull the old coil go to put the new coil in and DA#%. Somebody did not check model # before the got new AHU into attick (again I will not tell you ho didn't do this). So anyway to make a long story short Ill be changing every thing out next spring! And it WILL NOT BE A PAYNE NEXT TIME. Just wonted to tell you that story so If you do have to replace the coil it might be worth puting in a new unit!

When you nicked the coil did the refrigerant leak out?
If it did then Jay has a good idea to cover the hole to keep air and moisture out.
A copper coil is extremely easy for a good tech to repair.

Yes, you can solder it. If you are not good at this, take it to an auto radiator shop. They should charge very little for the reair.

You sure dont want to take the coil out of the furnace and let the lines open. You sure dont want to just solder it . Most of the time we would use silfos 15

No, You DO NOT solder it shut. And No, an auto repairshop dose not repair this!

Get an hvac tech and let him/her look at it. It will be cheaper if it can be repaired in place. If it has to be removed, you may as well put in a new coil. It usually takes more time to remove, repair and re-install the old coil as opposed to putting in a new one. Something to think about and discuss with your tech. Plus new coils have a warranty and repaired coils do not.
With Ed, we use the silfos 15% silver brazing rods all the time. It's the best and will never give you trouble.
A radiator repair shop is not the place for repairing this type of coil.
