I had been planning to have someone come in and take out the cabinet where my electric cooktop is and replace it with an electric range, then take out the ghastly and intrusive wall-oven bumpout on an adjoining wall. But I saw on "Kitchen Renovations" on DIY where they put in a new cooktop, and what looked like a wall oven popped into the base cabinet.
Is this feasible? And do I need a special cooktop that isn't as deep? My guess is that this is some special kind of cooktop and oven. The brand used on the show was Electrolux, but it's VERY expensive.
Anyone know how to do this or what to ask for? The base cabinet opening is currently 31" wide by 18" high, but there is a fair amount of space above the opening before hitting the cooktop bottom. For what it's worth, the cooktop is a GE electric from around 1975-1980. It's harvest gold, so that should give you a clue. :)

The idea of putting a wall oven high is to make it easier to get into it and see how things are cooking, but you can put it wherever you want it. Finding the size oven you want may be the hardest thing.

But a range has the same issue, that you have to bend down to see what's cooking. And I am only 4'10" tall, so it's less of an issue. :)

The cabinet where the other range was located is probably special made for a slip in range/oven. I have the same setup. In order to have the cooktop at countertop height, I will have to build up the cabinet. As for installing an oven in a base cabinet, yuk. At 4'10" you may be ok, but look at resale to others who will despise having to get on their knees to see what is in the oven. A single cooktop/oven unit will probably be your best bet.
I installed a gas cooktop yesterday for a customer, and noted with the downdraft, there was no cabinet room for anything else underneath except for pan storage. Luckily their ovens are wall mounted.

it similar to a standard range, but has the controls on the front. It has the surface unit, with the oven below, but all one piece.
