I recently bought a home that has really old insulation in the attic that needs to be improved. Running down the middle of the attic are nailed down boards. (Covering about 1/3 of the attic space) I am not going to use the attic for storage. Will I have any problems if I insulate over the boards instead of ripping them up?

That's what I did about 20 years ago in my attic. When we bought the house the attic was insulated with kraft faced batts to the height of the ceiling joists. I just rolled unfaced insulation over the existing, perpendicular to the joists. I covered a 12'X12' area that had 1/2" plywood put down by the previous owner.
