When hanging the cabinets, do I need to a countersink drill bit to make my holes in the cabinets? Or, can I just drill a 3/16" hole and drive through my 2 1/2" wood screws into the studs?

These two methods seem to be at the forefront of everything I am reading. Everything says that you need to countersink everything.

Counter sunk looks better but I don't think it is a requirement.

Countersink screws used to fasten stiles together (and/or filler strips) on front of cabinets.
Use washer head screws to fasten to wall. Do not countersink screws used to fasten to wall.

Wirepuller is correct. I think they are called cabinet screws. Available at a big box store near you. The larger head helps keep them from pulling through the back of the cabinet after wifey puts her 480# of dishes in. They are also stronger in shear then the drywall screws some guys use to save money. I don't recommend using DW screws.

What wayne said, use cabinets screws, they are larger diameter than drywall screws(so stronger), and have a flat washer type head.
