I'm installing a floating laminate floor in the kitchen and family room.
The existing flooring in the kitchen is an old glue down 1/4" engineered hardwood on top of 1/2" ply underlayment . The floor in the family room was carpet/pad over the subfloor, which has been removed and built up with 3/4" OSB to match the height of the kitchen floor.
When I removed the old t-molding, I discovered that the transition between the rooms was not quite straight and the previous owners had screwed down some wood "shims" to fill in the void (between 1/4" and 3/4" wide in places).
My question is: should I use floor patch to smooth and feather out the gaps in the transition between the kitchen floor and the new subfloor?
I will be installing a new t-Molding, so part of the transition will be covered up, but this is a high traffic area and I want a solid surface for the laminate planks.
Thanks in advance!
