My floor has stick on tiles over original 1950's plastic tile. The edges have crumbled and torn away to leave a gap around the edge of the floor against the wall about 1 1/2 in wide and approx. 1/8 inch deep. Must I fill (level) this 1/8 inch deep by 1 1/2 in wide perimeter or is the width of the area small enoughto prevent flexing? There will be no traffic on the edge of the floor and the baseboard will cover aqpprox 1/2 of that 1 1/2 inch area.

what is your project? Are you putting something else over all this or just trying to make it look better?

1/8" is the max, so you're okay.

Thanks for the quick answers. My husband and I are leveling the concrete subfloor and were arguing about the 1 1/2 wide space. He will be so pleased he was right that it doesn't need to be filled in. I'm sure before this project is finished we will need more advice. You are appreciated!

Uuhh,,
I re measured the height of the gap. It is more like 1/4 inch, not 1/8 inch. Should we fill that height differnce?

If I were doing the job, I would. It's cheap insurance.

If it is along the wall it will not effect anything, as you will not be walking on your tip toes along the wall as your traffic pattern.

unless you'll be putting the back legs of a bakers rack or side board up against that wall......

Against my hubby's advice as he didn't think it necessary, I went ahead and filled in the 1 1/2" wide gap around the floor since there will be furniture against the walls. Thanks for all the information on laminate flooring; it gave us the confidence to tackle this job. Special thanks for answering our specific question. We finished the first bedroom today; it went pretty well and looks beautiful.
