We are on well water. All of the sudden it has taken on a kerosene like taste. It does not have any smell and the appearance does not look different (clear), but the taste has changed noticeably and it leaves an aftertaste in the mouth.
I’m not sure where to start on trying to figure out what has caused this to happen. Any comments and suggestions are greatly appreciated.

1. Have it tested to confirm problem.
2. Do you know of any buried tanks on the property? Kerosene, diesel, and fuel oil are similar. Any old filling stations nearby?
If it is contaminated with fuel I don't know what to do or if anything can be done to clean it up.

The only way to know if your well water is contaminated is to have it tested. Your local health department will likely do this for you. Many recommend annual testing of wells for germs and chemicals.
