Hello all,
I live in a small apartment in Japan with a section of fake wooden flooring that needs repair. The thin top covering is flaking in a 1 foot by 3 foot square area, leaving the wooden substrate exposed (and producing splinters!).
Here is a picture:

(I am holding a peeled off piece...that black thing is my foot, so you can reference the dimensions).
As it turns out, my landlord is refusing to replace the whole floor and basically told me to deal with it until I move out over a year from now.
Are there any varnishes, epoxies, thin coverings or teqniques someone can suggest that could seal or cover the area...I'm mostly worried about the splinters.
Thanks for any suggestions.

i would just put an area rug over it. any kind of urethane, etc you put over it will just come off, too. just cover it & count down the days til moving day!
is it from sliding that chair over the flooring? are the chair legs scraping the flooring?
