I am trying to see what is wrong with my electric starter on my snow thrower,Model # 536.887992.When i press the button all it does is make a whining sound.I would like to know how to get the black cap off to put wd 40 on it. Thank you

There's no need to remove the cap. Simply and lightly spray the WD onto the spiraled armature shaft being careful not to get any on the nut/driver area of the "Bendix" (just below the gear) as this is the drive mechanism and if coated with WD it will slip and not engage well.
