Folks;
When do you use finishing nails instead of common nails? I
never seem to be able to set common nails. Thank you in
advance. Ron

Common nails are not intended to be set. If you are assembling a joint where you do not want the nailheads to be visible use finish nails. Finish nails are typically used for trim (finish) work. They shouldn't be used for joints that will see stress under tension because the heads pull through.
