been in this house for about 5 years now and my room just seemed too bland. I tried to give it some life by adding posters of my hobbies and what-not onto the walls but they either fall off or just gets too messy and scattered. it's also a small room so i can't add furniture and cool things
Anyhow, i'm just looking for some suggestions or feedback. My room color will most likely be based on my bed sheets and carpet; green, tan, red. The table (in the picture) will be thrown out and be replace with the bed moved over(so the bed is in the center of the room) then to the right(or left) of the bed will be a small table drawer about two to two and half feet high with a blue vase with a different flower (that'll match the room hopefully).
now the hard parts for me are the colors. I wanted something soothing like blue or green but i don't want a direct color; maybe a shade/hint of either one or both. or is my imagination horrible. then have the trims/frames of the windows and doors a different color than the wall (along with the sliding mirrors) then the door the same as the walls or maybe different than the walls and frames (maybe a different shade) and then completely replace those horrid shutters :(
Maybe some rugs here and there? i'm open to all suggestions

select your bedding first, then paint the walls a color that goes with it.
remove all but one or two of those posters. they look very cluttered & messy.
and remove or paint those shutters white or a coordinating color. the stain doesn't seem to go with anything. then soften the windows with a valance and/or drapery panels.
simply keeping all the clutter put away & making your bed will do wonders to improve your small space. :)

Sounds like you and your room are having growing pains. The first thing to do is sort through things and discard or give away items you no longer use or have outgrown. Every inch of space is important, so you do not want anything in that room that is taking up precious space. By decluttering your room, you will find that you will have more storage space in the closet and more space on the desk. Shelves mounted on wall above desk will provide more space for books and otherly frequently used items that you decluttered desk drawers can not accommodate. And, paint that desk!
The mirrored closet doors are great and give the room the illusion of looking much larger and more spacious than it really is. Eliminate posters competely or, as suggested, pick one or two that can be used to enhance your color scheme. If the colors do not work, do not use them. Eliminate the balloons and other kidstuff. Especially, since it sounds like you are after a more sophisticated look.
The shutters are really a distraction. Get rid of them or paint them to make them disappear and add a valance. You can also hide them behind window treatments. Hang long, flowing curtains at ceiling height to give the room the feeling of greater height and spaciousness.
Purchasing a new comforter for the bed in colors that appeal to you will provide you with a palette with which to work and/or from which to choose colors for your room. You mention green, tan, and red to match the bed sheets. Those were not visible. The carpet was most definitely beige, which is a nice neutral. If you have a desire for a soothing green, there are many popular 'sagey' greens available which would work well with the carpet. If green is what you desire, then shop for a comforter that has that special green that you have a hankering for.
Another option, if planning on keeping the Mickey Mouse clock, is to go with the colors in the clock. I see soft blue, yellow, a little red, and some white. Now, that's something to think about. But, again, it depends if you are really wanting a more grown up and sophisticated look.
You mention that the blue vase is staying. It is a beauty. Crisp blue and white. That would work wonderfully with soft yellow walls and white trim.
The world is your oyster when it comes to color. Think about it and post back and let us know what you come up with. A new comforter can be your inspiration. Or, the Mickey Mouse clock or the blue and white vase. BTW, that vase is sitting on a very nice looking desk or table with a beautiful chair.
