Hi,
I am planning to convert one of our closets (Width:72", Depth 30", Height 80") to a home office and am contemplating between the following options -

1) Fabricate own cabinets with plywood framework and melamine front panels for doors and drawers.

2) Use standard kitchen cabinets with some modifications.

I would like to hear your thoughts on either of the two options.
Also, if any of you folks know where can I shop for finished melamine panels in San Jose/Bay Area please let me know. I tried the local homedepot/lowes etc but could not find these. Your inputs are much appreciated.

Prima facie, I thought you were going to make the closet into an office. As I read further, I gather you will be opening up the closet to install inset desk components. Hope this is the correct assumption. It would be best to make your own cabinets as kitchen cabinets won't have proper drawer sizing for folders, etc. You can use a laminate countertop for a writing surface, or you could build your own, just be sure to make the surface hard, and allow for hard drive, printer, pull out keyboard tray, etc.
