Hi all,

I am having laminate flooring installed in my home next week. My flooring will be installed on a concrete slab. I have found several different types of underlayment and I am looking for a recommendation on which one I should choose. My installer recommends that I select an underlayment that has the moisture barrier and sound padding all in 1. I have seen several underlayments, some with rubber padding, foam padding, and another one had a type of padding that I don't know how to describe. Is the rubber padding better than the foam padding? My concern is that I do not want my floor to sound hollow when I walk on it and I also do not want to feel like I am walkin on concrete.

Thanks.

Best to go with the flooring manufacturer recommendations. Usually, they sell their own..in conjunction with their flooring.
I'd check with them or the salesperson who is selling you the flooring.

Going with the best padding recommended by the manufacturer should address your concerns. A vapor retarder will be needed if installing over concrete. Some recommend a laminate product with attached cushion for the best sound deadening.
