I have a new wall just framed and getting ready in install some outlets. There is a couple of inches between this new wall and the block wall behind it. When I install my wiring I've read the you drill a 1/2 inch hole at least 1.5 inched back from the front and feed the wire through the holes. My question is can I just run the wire behind the wall to the outlet and not drill any holes at all ? This way there are no holes in the 2x4's and no interference with the insulation.

How do you plan to support it. It's tough to staple wiring with no space to swing a hammer.

It's probably against code as well to have unsupported wire through walls, but I'm dumb, I don't know.
