Hello all, new to the forum, I'm looking for some different ideas for replacing my drop ceiling panels. I have looked at many a panel and decided that I don't like any of them. I was thinking of using plywood but any new ideas would be nice. Thanks

Jay~

Depending on theme, decor, what's on the walls, and how much money and effort you want to expend, you may want to consider changing to drywall, bead board, or tongue and groove planks. If dropped ceiling is covering an old ceiling with problems, you can cover with new drywall or simply use the 12" square tiles to cover it. Tin ceiling tiles are great, too, especially in the kitchen.

Dropped ceilings are usually 2 x 2' or 2 x 4'. Today they have more texture and color options from which to choose.

Thanks for your reply, right now the entire room is gutted |(walls and ceiling), the walls will be 1/2 drywall and I wanted to install a 2 x 4 panel drop ceiling for the fact of obtaining access to phone, speaker, and cable lines running to the second floor. I'v looked at many ceiling panels and decided that they all look (well like drop ceiling panels) I was thinking of cutting and staining wood panels to get a different look but was just wondering if anyone had any better ideas.

I believe it was Menard's that has a faux tin ceiling for a lay-in grid. Not sure if it comes in 2x4 or just 2x2. It can be painted to simulate actual metal or an actual color.

I saw a ceiling I was taken with. It was 2x4 opaque white lay-in panels with simple strip lighting above. It also took care of the "what lighting to use" question at the same time.

There are also recessed grid panels that hang about 1/4 inch below the grid. These tend to look upscale compared to the generally used panels. They;re priced upscale as well.
