Heat Pumps and Electric Heating - burning smell from electric baseboard heater

i work in a hairsalon & the owners just installed new baseboard heaters. how long does it take for the burnt smell to go away?
we have been using them since tues. for 8hrs a day(3 days) & the smell is still very strong. almost like burning plastic or styrofoam. there is no smoke. we have checked to make sure nothing is in or on the heaters. being a salon ,hair could be a problem but we cant see anything in or on them. could they be installed incorrectly? something internally burning? thanks for any input.

Some electric baseboard heaters when first turned on emit a burning odor. This is not dangerous and is due to a protective lubricant used during manufacturing. Once this 'burns' off, the odor will be gone.

On electric units like that just a hour or so and it should be over. You might check and see if it is wired right. Could you have 110V base board and wired in for 220V.
Also I know some times we have somthing like this if the shop uses a lot of hair spray. It seems to drift over on the elements and puts off a smell
