A question for Trane experts. I have a Trane XV90 paired with an XL14i heat pump. Southeast location. I have never seen my heat pump in defrost cycle. How is the defrost cycle supposed to work with a dual fuel system? Thanks in advance for your reply.

It dont. For a heat pump to go into defrost. It goes back to a AC unit and runs. Now so the air is not cold in the home the AUX heat turns on for that time. For what you have it is set up so it dont go into defrost. As if the furnace came on with the unit in defrost it would be to hot on the AC coil. So I think you have a Outdoor tstat and that till if the heatpump runs or the furnace run. This is how We wire them. You would have to check if that is the way yours is.
