I recently bought a used go cart with a 5hp tecumseh... When i got it the stupid thing didnt run at all unless you primed the crap out of it and kept priming it while it ran.. Well tore down the carb cleaned everything up cleaned out the holes in the bolt that holds the float on and it started running ok on its own.. ran it a couple weekends let it sit a week and it wouldnt stay runnign again.. same problem you have to prime it it then it will run for a few seconds and die. Checked the holes in the bolt again... they are clean! what could this possibly be?

It doesnt take much to kill these small engines. Check the fuel flow from the line at the carb. It should run out easily. make sure the gas is new, and a new fuel filter is inline. Totally clean the carb(soak) and be sure to drain the gas tank and check it for debris, rust, etc. make sure the bowl of the carb isn't rusted. might even replace the fuel lines.

I assume your go cart is older (not new). You may have to clean out the gas tank and clean/replace the fuel lines. Varnish from stale gas can drive you crazy if you don't get it at the source.

check to see if float has gas inside of it.
