I have a burnham oil furnace w/ steam heat, the Furnace is around 20 years old, it is cleaned and serviced every year and was serviced a month ago. Today I found it not clicking on. The thermostat is an old Honeywell, I am wondering if that is the problem. If it had major problems, I am sure the oil man would have found them, he does a thorough job. I checked the home's fuse box, I can't find the start switch for the furnance. The furnace is completely cold. Any Ideas what the issue could be? I can't seem to find the reset switch, I check the burner motor can't find the button. The Motor is made by becket. thanks Kevin.

he is usually really busy during this time of year, and it may take him a week to get here. The whole system was serviced in mid September and ran fine 2 days ago. For some reason we are having a real cold Fall so far in CT, so If It is a small problem I would like to fix it myself, so I can get the heat cranking soon. I'm pretty good with most housing projects, electical, plumbing, carpentry, etc, heating systems have never been anything I have learned, except for the occasional bleeding of radiators. I been busy getting ready for winter installing gutters, a new threshold and shrink wrapping windows, I wasnt expecting this.

Not sure what control you can have there.two ways to go if old could you have a stack control in the flue pipe push the red botton. if a box by the burner Red button. if burner runs but dont light try only 3 tims. At tstat you should have only two wires if that turns the burner on jump R to W and see if it lights. Ok then we have where the tstat just turns on a pump on the boiler. The boiler can run on temp with controls down there. then you said steam??? steam should have a low water cut off. You see you have lot and lots of ifs ifs ifs .

10,000 V transformer, now your starting to scare me,lol.
I think I am going to make the service call, could be anything. The Burner is a Beckett AFG, for some reason I can't find the reset switch, is it inside the box? My other thought was it might be the old honeywell thermostat upstairs because there's no spark when I turn it at all. I am going to tinker around a little more nothing major, If I can't get it running tonight, I figure it's best to call an expert. Thanks for the help Ed.

after learning all about my Burnham V-7 series, my Beckett AFG, and honeywell thermostat last night I determined it was an electrical issue. I checked the home circuit breaker, the emergency switches and the reset button, and got nothing.
I went as far as I could go and made the service call. The oil man had an interesting time figuring out the issue, he knew is was a power issue but couldnt find exactly the source of the probelm. He ended up testing the emergency switch on the furnace and the plug box above the furnace, both were blown, but for some reason the home circuit breaker was never tripped. He guessed it may have been a wierd spike or something, he just thought it was strange both were blown out. He replaced the parts, and now the heat is back on just in time for a 30 something degree night.
Thanks for the help.

It pays to have a cheap Volt meter around so you can check what has power and what dont .
