its a 11 hp briggs and stratton motor for a murray. it was running fine the it just cut off and now it wont start. its getting gas and i have put a new spark plug in it.

First try a little gas (air filter off) down the carb and turn it over... (given it turns over via the key)
If it starts..... fuel problem..., first try it without the gas cap, then check and make sure fuel is getting to the carb at a good rate.... then clean the carb...
If it doesn't, check for spark (take the plug out, put it back in the boot, ground the threads to the head and turn the engine over and watch for a blue snap) No spark? take the kill wire (have to take the shroud off) off the coil.. then try.., still none, coil.... if you get some, kill switch.
If it sparks to begin with.... make sure its got compression (turn the engine over backwards by hand, it should bounce back) I doubt a timing problem.... unless you hit something when it died...
How old (post the model, type and code) specifically the code to tell the year..., older then 83, it has point/condensor ignition.
