I have a Ruud high efficiency condensing gas furnace (model # UGEB-12EE-JS) , 125,000 btu, that lights with a bang or a whump. It seems as if the gas is collecting in the combustion chamber before it is ignited. It has a hot surface igniter which is new as of 2/06. This problem existed before the igniter was replaced. I have had several different hvac professionals try to fix this problem with no concrete answers and the problem persists. The furnace was installed in 1987. Any help would be appreciated.

Did the service men clean the burners? Is this LP(propane) or natural gas? Also did they check gas pressure? If LP did they check incoming pressure to furnace as well as pressure at the gas valve. If you feel comfortable doing this, remove the the burners and clean them. This should take care of the problem. To check gas pressure call a professional.

for the feedback. I did a thorough cleaning of the furnace including the burners and this seems to have solved the problem. Thanks again. This site is a great resource!
