I have been having trouble with the spark ignition on my furnace. Not sure what the problem is, but need to wiggle the spark wire to get the furnace to fire up. I'm going to go ahead and replace the control module -- it's a Honeywell S8600M.

I'm a very handy homeowner and wondered how hard it is to replace. It looks like I need to unplug on the wires on the current module, screw in the new module and plug in all the wires. Is that all there is to it?

Grounding question -- the current module is grounded like this: the ground sits on top of one of the plastic mounts and the screw goes through the mount and connects to a metal piece attached to the furnace. Can I ground it directly to the back of the furnace?

Thanks for your help!

I don't find that ignition module in my catalogs. It seems the 8600 may have been replaced by the 8610. There should be an instruction sheet in the box with the control to tell you if there are any different terminal designations. Be sure to look carefully at this sheet because if wired incorrectly you could fry the new control. Ground is critical on spark modules. It does not matter to where you ground it but it must have a good ground all the way back to the breaker panel. In one case, I had to drive a separate ground.
