Okay here is the situation
I have a split-foyer house with 1600 sq feet of living space upstairs and 800 sq feet downstairs. The builder installed a single 2.5 ton unit in the lower level and then ran a main duct to the attic and distributed out over the entire upper level. It resulted in very poor performance.
I am now in the process of finishing the lower level and realize that the single unit will never be able to handle both levels. I am having a second system installed in the attic to handle the upper level and want to use the original unit to handle the lower level.
Except I have concerns that the original unit will now be too big for the space it will be covering. Resulting in a humidity problem because the unit won't run for a long enough time.
Is there any way to overcome this situation other than scrapping the original unit and buying a size that would be more appropriate?

Will you could try for a time to drop the fan speed to low. that sure will pull the humidity out for you and might work real good. That would be just like or units that have a humidstat
control on them. It just slows the blower down.
