We know an elderly lady who needs a washing machine. We've been offered one (I don't know the brand or age) that will not run cold water for some reason. The owner knew nothing about repairs and wanted a new one anyway, so she bought a new one.

We figured a pre-loved washer might caught less to repair than buying her a new one.

Any ideas on what could be wrong and how expensive it would be to fix?

Could be as simple as the screen in water valve needs cleaned.
Water valve itself could be bad but not very expensive to replace. Dave
