Hello,
I recently bought an Ademco 5804 wireless remote expecting to program it without any trouble but I soon realized my keypad is the 6150 and not the 6160 with the alpha numeric display. Anyways, I was able to enter the zone programming mode (*56) with the 6150 and somehow deleted one of my zones (entry/exit) because when I open the front door, the alarm doesn’t turn on. Is there a way I can re-program that zone without a 6160? Maybe just giving me the sequence of inputs could help.
If I were to change the Ademco 6150 with the 6160 keypad, can I just unplug the 6150 and plug the 6160 without doing any changes. Will I have to upgrade the cable, do any setting change, etc. Thanks.
Mike

Absolutely. In fact, if you're going to DIY your alarm, a 6160 is all but essential.
Without knowing exactly what the readout is with your front door, I wouldn't even attempt programming till you get the alpha-numeric KP up and running.

Swapping the two keypads isn't an issue as long as you set the new one for the same address. You can even install the alpha keypad temporarily and remove it later, but swapping is better, because you get a more capable keypad.
It's possible to reprogram a single zone blind, but you need to know all of the details of your current configuration to do it. We'd need the zone number, the type of zone, and whether it's a monitored system.

Thanks for the input guys. My wife is mad that I messed up the alarm system and I want to fix it ASAP =P I eventually will get the 6160 so I can program but for now I just want to fix the zone that I messed up. I'm in the dog house and I wanna get out..HELP! OK...here are the details of my alarm and what I need programmed. Let me know if I should give you any other details.

Go to program then enter the following keystrokes:
*56
0
01*
01
1*
01 01*
1*
* 00
The last should exit zone programming. If it doesn't, don't try to push anymore keys. This is where this can get you into trouble and end up deleting zone 2.
Simply leave it alone, and it will time out of program mode on it's own in a few minutes, at worst, simply power the sucker down, and restart. The changes to the eeprom are already made, and should be good.
As you can see, even with the installer manual in front of you, trying to do this without seeing the prompts is a pain in the neck.
