I got lucky and fixed my Maytag dishwasher tonight and want to share it with you folks. Who knows, maybe someone else is having this same problem.
The problem was that the water would not drain. Consequently, we got some water on the kitchen floor, and a lot more when we opened the door.
After a few tests the problem turned out to be a clogged drain line: macaroni and cheese had plugged it up. I disconnected it from the garbage disposal and from the motor and took it outside and blew it out with the garden hose.
