I have two bedrooms over the garage in my ranch house. Both rooms are really cold compare to other rooms. Both rooms are farthest from the furnace. There is a loose filled fiber glass insulation covered with dry wall in the ceiling of the gargage.
The floor is carpet over the wooden floor.
There is always some mildew or mold at the corners of both the rooms near the floor that I have to clean up regularly in winter. I guess these are from condensation.
In the garage ceiling there is a 5ft metal return duct connecting both the room's return registers. This return duct is connected from the top to the ceiling joist some how. I see it's exposed in the garage but there is no insulation around it. Will insulating return duct make these rooms less cold?
If I wrap the return duct with insulation then do I also have to cover it up with dry wall?
