Anybody know the protocol used here?
Is it rs232 by any chance?
I'd like to automate/simulate the interaction with a terminal emulator, or send/expect script, or some such linux tool.

Nope, it's not a standard format like RS232. It's sufficiently propriatory that keypads made for some of the older Ademco systems will not work on the "P" series panels.
There's no computer/network interface for this system that I know of.
