Try this keystroke set:

*8 9713

If the service LED lights, and the five functin LEDs (stay, chime, exit, bypass, & cancel) light steady, then you are in luck and we can help you. Press the Exit key until the system goes back to run mode and let us know (don't press it too many times, or you may possibly arm the system, then we'll be truely stuck).

If it doesn't work, then short of a lucky guess at the installer code or the current master code, only someone with the downloader software and possibly a NX486 module can get into the program.

I'm not the original poster, but I have the same problem and came across this post in a search. I did the keystroke suggested and the lights came on as indicated. What are my next steps? I want to reset this code myself and not have a monitored alarm system if possible. Thanks for the help!

Ok, now I have problems. The alarm is on and won't go back off. 9713 or 971300 is doing absolutely nothing! Help!!!!

Awww crud! You pressed the exit key too many times and armed it...

Basically, without the direct connect module and a computer, there is no way to access programming to reset the master code. Sorry... If there is a local dealer for GE/Caddx hardware, they can reset the thing. Short of a lucky guess at that mastercode, there's no other option.

That's what I thought - thanks for the confirmation.

I can't get anybody out to work on it and can't guess the master code - so, looks like I'll be doing some manual disarming of the system. I hate to do it, but I'm trapped in my house and the panel won't quit beeping.

Thanks for the response!

Direct Connect part number for the caddx/networx panels in NX-586E

I have the same problem, except my alarm goes off if I plug the system in. It says that the front door alarm went off. There is no way to manually reset the system so you can just enter a code? There is one large micro chip on the board, so I figured I would remove it, then start the system. I started it and it just says "Service", but no longer beeps. When I put the chip back in it starts beeping again. Is there any way to manually erase this chip, or simply buy a new one?

No, there is no hardware default for a NX series panel. The NX-586e is the only direct bypass for the system being armed.

Ok, you are in luck. Enter the following:

*8 9713
0#
43#
4*
Exit until out of program mode.

This sets the installer code as a master code that can change other codes.

next:
*5 +9713 +01 +[new 4 digit master code]+#

Test the new code. If it works, enter the first sequence above again. For a number of reasons not keeping the installer code as a master code is a good idea, so those same keystrokes will revert it to just being and installer code.

Make sure you hit the * key after you enter "4" to save that entry....

The same as above, only substitute the master code for the installer code.

OK, I was trying these procedures to reset my system and it is now armed and I don't know the code or how to disarm.

edit: I was able to guess my code. But it does not do beeps as in the past to set or unset, any ideas why that might be?

You may have simply turned the sound down on the keypad. That's in the user manual.

If you mean that the keypad doesn't beep when zones are opened and closed, then you just press the chime key.

I don't have the users manual, is the sound the up and down arrows that are above and outside the keypad? When I do the code and exit it used to make loud beeps to let you know that it was counting down till it was going to be armed, but it is silent now. It will chime if I select the chime button, but otherwise is silent.

If you have been into the system programming, you could have turned off the exit sounds. Could you be arming in stay mode? The keypad doesn't make an audible count for that.

I have the NX8 system installed in my home along with the NX-148E LCD panel, both branded GE.

Are the commands the same? Is the installer code the same? I am in a similar situation - in a new home and stranded without the codes.

Thanks!

Dave

NX-4, 6, and 8 all use a common programming model and command set. The higher models just have more features enabled.
