i'd like to mix some concrete to repair the cracks in my basement concrete floor. the cracked areas are about 1.5 inches deep and 4" wide, after chipping out the loose stuff. would one part portland cement to 2 parts all-purpose sand be a good mix? do i measure the parts by weight or volume? do i need to add lime?

Are the cracks "alive" or "dead"? That is, do they have any movement at all.

If they are dead, then you should use a repair mortar made specifically for this purpose; if they are alive, then you should use the repair mortar to form a joint that is then filled with a backer rod and a flexible sealant.
