Forgive me because I know this has probably been answered a thousand times in this forum... I tried a quick search and couldn't find it though...

I have heard that you use unsanded grout for <1/8" spacing and sanded for >1/8" spacing... but, what do you do for 1/8" spacing?

If it matters I am laying 3/8" thick 12x12 grainite tiles on a counter top. The tile store sold me unsanded grout when I told them I was going with 1/16" spacing... but I chickened out and spaced my tiles at 1/8". Can I still use the unsanded grout that I bought, or should I return it?

Thanks,
Steve

You can use the unsanded grout. It is good for up to 1/8" grout lines and in the case of polished granite tiles it would be best to use to avoid any possible scratching of the tile surface. The sanded has a coarser texture and could leave some small scratches on the tile during application and cleanup.
