I have a 90 series Kenmore washing machine that makes a loud thumping noise when it is on the spin cycle. I can turn the tub with my hand and hear it hitting something what might it be and what is involved in removing the tub?

Sounds like you both have the same problem. The drive block that the inner tub sits on is bad & slipping on the transmission shaft. Its basically letting the inner tub bounce around in spin cycle. Usually worse with a large load of clothes. Not much fun to get at & involves disassembling washer shell, agitator, top outer tub ring, removing a lock nut & removing inner tub. Not an easy job if you plan on tackling by yourself. Dave
