My house has fiberglass type batting in the walls but it was probably installed when it was built in 1960. It is not at all effective. The depth of the walls is the standard 3 1/2". I drilled a small hole in the wall board and lightly poked a stiff piece of wire into the space. The insulation only takes up 1 1-2" of the space. Blown-in insulation is not possible because it would not get past the batting. It seems that the only way to add any insulation is to take down the wallboard to insulate and then put up new wallboard. Wow! That would be a lot of work for my entire ranch dwelling! If there are any executives or project planners for a home improvement show that would like to tackle it, just let me know. Does anyone else have an idea for my home?
