I too have a side by side GE fridge. One year old. Ice maker was working fine until we replaced the water filter. Immediately after replacing, the ice maker no longer works. Is there some sort of switch to trip or something that needs to be done after changing filters? There is no ice clogging the line. The maker does absolutely nothing. Thanks in advance...

newbie111,
As you can tell from the previous posts, icemakers can be a bear to troubleshoot. That said, the only user control that can keep the icemaker from working at all is the lever that is used to turn the icemaker off when the tray is full.
Changing the filter should not have caused it to quit working. Do you have water in the door as well as the icemaker? If so, does it work? It could rule out the filter.

Yes, it does seem to be a bear!!
Yes, we have water in the door, and yes, water does come out. I checked the water volume coming out the door and it is where it should be. I don't know, maybe the thing shorted out and it was just a coincidence it happened immediately after changing the filter.

newbie111,
Is there ice or water in the tray? We have to start somewhere?

Thanks Randy. There is no ice and no water in the tray. Absolutely nothing happens when turned on. Water comes out the door dispenser but no water is getting into the icemaker unit.

newbie111,
I would probably check the inlet valves next. The easiest to get to would be the ones on the back of the refrigerator. I don't know what configuration you may have, but some refrigerators have two valves outside and two more inside when a filter is involved.
If you have two valves in the back, try to swap the wires between valves. If you can do that, try your water in the door again. With luck the water in the door will quit, and your icemaker will work. Not immediately, since it will have go through a cycle for the complete test. But if your water in the door quits, you will have found the problem.
Of course, if you only have one valve in the back, then we'll have to try something else.
