I live in a house that is about 70 years old. The bathroom floor has cement in it, I guess for the tile work. Does anyone know what that type of practice that is called? I seem to remember hearing the term, "wet base" or something like that. My neighbor told me that the cement is about 4 inches thick. I need to know because I'm going to have to tear the floor up to replace the toilet, which appears to be the original.

Thanks

Are you sure you have to tear up the floor just to replace a toilet? Are you planning to move it?

Talk to a plumber and find out what he would charge. He may know how to do what you need without all the mess and cost.

The plumber was the one who told me that it would have to be done. He believes that the present toilet has a lead flange underneath it. He said that if he tried to just replace the toilet it would involve breaking the old toilet. Installing the new one, which wouldn't be a stable fit if there is a lead flange. He told me that if he did that, I'd have to assume responsibility because I could end up with more problems.
