My Kenmore washer, Model 110.26912691, sometimes won't agitate. It fills okay, then when the agitation should start, it doesn't. The motor does not run. The timer continues to turn. This occurs in the wash and rinse parts of the cycle, and occurs on all three available cycles. The spin cycle is fine. Looking at the wiring schematic, it appears that if the timer is turning, the water level switch is sending a "full" signal, tending to rule out that component. On this model, the lid switch does not stop the agitation, so it would not appear to be that component. Looking at the schematic, there is a "motor start switch" that I would suppose is a solenoid that energizes the motor circuit. Could this component be sticking? Where is this switch located? Are there any other suggestions as to what might be causing this intermittent problem? Wiring short? Which wires should I start with? Thanks much for any help.

The motor start switch is mounted on the motor but if it spins ok I doubt its the switch. If your washer has a plug on harness to the motor, unplug the harness & check the motor terminals & the terminals in the harness. Could be a bad terminal connection that needs cleaned. Dave

I have the same problem with our Kenmore Washer. The machine will not agitate (intermittently) mainly on the wash cycle. It will then often agitate on the rinse cycle, and I can reset the timer to the wash cycle and the machine will agitate. An outside service tech diagnosed the problem as a bad "timer". I replaced the timer which did not solve the problem. I did have the machine apart with the motor unplugged when I replaced the drive coupler.
I am still looking for an answer, while I continue to "trick" the machine into working. Any advice would be great.
