I have a metal filling cabinet that I need to paint. Wuld a rustoleaum spray paint be the best way to go. My other option would be to paint it with some left over latex paint that I have.

What would you recommend?

The rustoleum spray is probably the better choice. If it has any rust at all you'll need to prime it with rusty metal primer.Otherwise you'll need to lightly sand and well clean the surface.Depending on the color choice and/or change a couple coats would be a good idea.

Any solvent based enamel will do the job. I wouldn't recomend latex! As already noted, sanding and cleaning the surface is needed to insure that the paint bonds well.
