Hey
I have a older GE oven that came when I bought my house a year ago. It has always been hot but something recently happened. I noticed that it was taking along time to heat up by the light. When I opened the oven door I got a blast of heat. I turned the temp knob down and the light never shut off all the way to the end. A few minutes later it finally went off. i turned it all the way on but it came back on when I turned it down from 500. Would this mean the thermostat is gone or should I look somewhere else before calling a repair man?
Thanks
KC

Depending how old it is it could have an oven sensor that is bad.
Look inside your oven in the upper left corner. If you see a probe that sticks out about 4" held onto oven wall with 2 screws, thats the sensor. That tells the thermostat when to send power to the bake element. If you get me the model # I can verify for sure if your oven has a sensor or just a thermostat that may be bad. Dave
