Have a Goodman split system heat pump, new, and possibly an issue with the transformer located in the outdoor unit. Everything seems to work fine except there is a buzzing noise from the transformer when the unit is in cooling mode and the fan is not turning (maybe when the fan is turning as well, could not tell). When the unit is set to heat the transformer does not buzz.

The buzz seems to be a vibrating buzz since the black output wires when contacted (using every caution here with insulated gloves and pliers) intensifies the buzzing noise and I can feel a vibration.

Is the issue that the unit may not be getting a full 24v, something to do with a "reversing valve solenoid" or that the unit does not have enough refrigerant?

Tested the unit with my multimeter. Getting a solid 26.2v measured on the low voltage board at the C and R terminals. This is within the expected 24-28v range.

The transformer is buzzing when the condensor fan is running and when it is not. The transformer does not buzz when the unit is set to heat.

You're sure this is the xformer and not the contactor ?? If it's the xformer you can try tightening the mounting screws. Sometimes they vibrate to where they just get replaced.

Yes, you're right, it is called the contactor. Found a picture of it.

All wires are mounted securely, no "pitting" and it appears to be mounted securely to the unit.

It has to do with the armature of the thing. I have rebuilt contactors but only when neccessary (souldn;t get a new one in the middle of the night) but I would simply replace yours.

Although alot of them last a long time after they start buzzing, it is generally the beginning of the end.

They are not that expensive. I would just replace it.
