My 1st post so please bare with me on whats expected --

I am finally ready to paint my living room, dimensions are 23' x 12', all my existing furniture will stay because its either new or I just plain like it. Basically I have a sofa, chaise lounge and recliner in a very light almost beige olive color, these are 3 matching pieces all made with microfiber. My end table, china cabinet and entertainent center are cherry wood. Existing carpet doesn't matter because eventually I will be tearing that up where there are hardwood floors underneath, will probably go with an area rug at some point.

I'm leaning towards a sage color or even a shade of green that appears to have a bit of blue tint to it but I'm afraid that might be too much 'green' in the room.

Anybody have any suggestions? Oh and right now the walls are all dark paneling which of course will be primed before being painted

Thanks!

You are correct in thinking that the green wall color is too close in color to the upholstery. What are the other colors in your color scheme in your home?

If thinking lighter, perhaps a yellow with a subtle hint of green in it or a cream with a hint of the beige or green in it or a tan? If thinking darker, a much darker pastel green? But, like you say, that may be too much green. Reds will compete with the red tones in cherry wood. Collect some paint chips and bring them home and study them under natural and artificial light.

Rusty reds, dark blues, yellows from light to mustard and gold, and ivory are often seen with olive green in plaids and other fabric patterns. If you have not selected a color scheme, look at fabrics, paintings, and accessories that contain your color green and you will likely find a ready made color palette. If you love olive green, you may already have an accessory in your home that would have an inspirational color palette for you. Pull your olive green throughout the home in accessories. You may have a room where it can dominate.

even though you're not quite ready to use it yet, i would go ahead & select and purchase the area rug you KNOW you're going to want & need. area rugs can be VERY difficult to select. once you have your rug, you can base your wall color & draperies on the rug. right now, you're trying to pick a wall color based on nothing else other than a solid sage fabric. your choices are too numerous right now. make it easy on yourself & pick the items that are limited & hard to find first, then build out from there.
