Just curious, on a heat pump used mostly for heating, why is the liquid line not insulated? It seems there would be definite heatloss here.

Insulation is required only on suction lines as per building codes. The purpose of this insulation is to prevent water damage from the sweating line. Effeciency has nothing to do with that decision. Since liquid lines do not sweat, no insulation is required.
