I live in a small 2) bedroom house with a bathroom between the two and my current First Alert SA91 is mounted on the ceiling in the hall.

Problem: On some days (and I never know when that's going to be) the humidity from the shower sets this thing off, leaving a soaking wet, naked man running around the house so I can remove the 9V battery.

NOT a good start to a Day. Not a pretty site for the neighbors either.

Does anyone know if the newer smoke detectors from Kidde or First Alert with "Smart Technology" will solve this problem, please?

Pretty sure the one I am using an an ionization type.
Possibly a photoelectric, or combo detector might work?

Thanks for any advice!

Yes, photo electric detectors are far less suceptible to humidity change false trips. They are worth the extra cost.

Thanks much for the reply MrRon.

When I went shopping online I noticed First Alert and others made dervices for kitchens which probably work on the same principle.

Optical devices I can kinda understand.

Ionization is way above this guy's head: so what you said makes perfectly good sense: Thanks again!

Hope the neighbors don't get bored watching OUT for the naked man scurrying around the house.

Just a routine follow-up for anyone else who encounters a similar situation: I bought a First Alert model SA-302 which is a combo photoelectric & ionization type.

It hasn't gone off once (false alarms), can be tested with your TV remote and fit nicely into the same holes in my lathe & plaster ceiling.
Adjustable from 3-4 inch hole spacing: very nice feature.

A Great Buy at Ace Hardware for $19.99 + a little tax.
