We've decided to get a new one, as our 1998 FA SxS had some issues, seems to be working ok now. We have rave relegated it for the patio or garage.
From a tech/repair guys standpoint, any particular brand/model stick out from the durability/dependabilty angle, component quality, etc.??
Years ago I used to haul Gibson products, so when it came time for a fridge I bought a Gibson, awhile later, I was in an appliance distributer warehouse and was shooting the breeze with a repair guy and mentioned my new Gibson fridge, he said I should not have bought it, coil lines too small or something, not important now, but the point being, I wish I would have had that advice before we went shopping.
Not interested in gizmos, etc., just basic performance.

Thanks Don

Don,
I have a side by side Amana model that has not given me any repair issues. But the water and ice dispensers produce poor tasting water and ice which is the fault of the components within the refrigerator. There is a holding tank for fresh water that cannot be accessed that must be made of inferior materials that gives the water a bad taste. The water entering the fridge is ok. So if you prefer a model with a water dispenser and/or icemaker, then contact the manufacturer and ask what kind of material is used for the holding tank to hold fresh water.
Holding tanks made of acrylic or stainless steel would be acceptable. My model does not list this information in the parts manual. The water tastes so bad that I don't even use it. When I need ice for my guests, I purchase it and dump it into my ice dispenser.
